Terms and Conditions (Beta)

Welcome to Metallum Rejections. These terms outline your rights and responsibilities while using our service. Please read them carefully.

1. Introduction

Welcome to Metallum Rejections. This site aims to document and preserve metal music history, particularly focusing on bands that were not accepted into Metal Archives. By using this service, you agree to these terms and conditions.

2. Beta Status

This site is currently in beta testing phase. This means:

  • Features and data structures may change without notice
  • Service stability is not guaranteed
  • Data may be modified or reset during development
  • Your feedback and bug reports are valuable to us

3. User Accounts

To contribute to Metallum Rejections, you need an account. By creating an account:

  • You must provide a valid email address for verification
  • You are responsible for maintaining your password security
  • You agree not to create multiple accounts or impersonate others
  • You understand that accounts may be terminated for violations

4. Content Guidelines

When submitting content, you agree to:

  • Provide accurate, verifiable information about bands and releases
  • Not submit copyrighted material without permission
  • Not submit offensive, harmful, or malicious content
  • Accept that all submissions are subject to review and moderation
  • Understand that repeated poor-quality submissions may result in account restrictions

5. Email Communications

We send emails only in four specific scenarios:

  • Registration: Account verification email (required for new accounts)
  • Forgot password: Password reset request (when initiated by you)
  • Email verification: Resend verification link (when requested)
  • Update email: Verification email for your new email address (when you update your email)

Email security: To prevent abuse, verification and password reset emails are limited to one per 12 hours per account

These emails are necessary for account security and cannot be opted out of.

6. Content Rights

By submitting content to Metallum Rejections:

  • You grant us permission to display and archive your submissions
  • You maintain ownership of your original content
  • You acknowledge that basic facts are not copyrightable
  • You agree that others may edit or update your submissions

7. Moderation

To maintain quality and accuracy:

  • All submissions are subject to review
  • Moderators may edit, update, or remove content
  • Decisions are based on our documentation standards
  • Repeated violations may result in account restrictions

8. Data Usage and Cookies

We use NextAuth.js for secure authentication. This means:

  • Session cookies are used to keep you logged in
  • Cookies are essential for account security and cannot be disabled
  • Session data is encrypted and stored securely
  • Sessions expire automatically for your security

We collect and store:

  • Email address (for account verification and recovery)
  • Username and password (encrypted)
  • Optional profile information you provide
  • Your contributions and edit history
  • IP addresses in server logs (for security)

9. Privacy

We respect your privacy:

  • Email visibility: You control whether your email address is displayed on your public profile. By default, email addresses are hidden. You can change this setting in your profile settings.
  • Account information is used only for site functionality
  • We do not sell or share your personal data
  • You can delete your account and personal information at any time
  • Account deletion: When you delete your account, we perform a soft delete rather than permanently removing all data from the database. This means your account is immediately deactivated and you cannot log in, but certain data is retained to maintain database relationships and integrity. This soft delete approach preserves referential integrity for your contributions (bands, edits, comments) while ensuring your account remains inaccessible.
  • Data is stored in a secure PostgreSQL database
  • We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmission

10. Changes to Terms

During the beta period, these terms may be updated. Significant changes will be announced on the site. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
