Terms and Conditions
Welcome to Metallum Rejections. These terms outline your rights and responsibilities while using our service. Please read them carefully.
1. Introduction
Welcome to Metallum Rejections. This site aims to document and preserve metal music history, particularly focusing on bands that were not accepted into Metal Archives. By using this service, you agree to these terms and conditions.
This platform is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Metal Archives (metal-archives.com). We may link to their site for reference (e.g. to their rules or band pages); such links do not imply any partnership or endorsement by them or by us.
"Metallum" is used as a generic term and we make no trademark claim to it.
We have no intention of ripping off Metal Archives’ design or data model. This site was built independently to serve a different purpose (documenting bands that do not meet their criteria).
The way the platform works (submissions, moderation, ranks, points, editing rules) is inspired by how Metal Archives operates.
For any contact regarding legal or intellectual property concerns, please write to elfstone321@metallum-rejections.com. We will respond in good faith.
3. User Accounts
To contribute to Metallum Rejections, you need an account. By creating an account:
- You must provide a valid email address for verification
- You are responsible for maintaining your password security
- You agree not to create multiple accounts or impersonate others
- You understand that accounts may be terminated for violations
4. Content Guidelines
When submitting content, you agree to:
- Provide accurate, verifiable information about bands and releases

5. Email Communications
We send emails only in four specific scenarios:
- Registration: Account verification email (required for new accounts)
- Forgot password: Password reset request (when initiated by you)
- Email verification: Resend verification link (when requested)
- Update email: Verification email for your new email address (when you update your email)
Email security: To prevent abuse, verification and password reset emails are limited to one per 12 hours per account
These emails are necessary for account security and cannot be opted out of.

8. Data Usage and Cookies
We use NextAuth.js for secure authentication. This means:
- Session cookies are used to keep you logged in
- Cookies are essential for account security and cannot be disabled
- Session data is encrypted and stored securely
- Sessions expire automatically for your security
We collect and store:
- Email address (for account verification and recovery)
- Username and password (encrypted)
- Optional profile information you provide
- Your contributions and edit history
- IP addresses in server logs (for security)
9. Privacy
We respect your privacy:
- Email visibility: You control whether your email address is displayed on your public profile. By default, email addresses are hidden. You can change this setting in your profile settings.
- Account information is used only for site functionality
- We do not sell or share your personal data
- You can delete your account and personal information at any time
- Account deletion: When you delete your account, we perform a soft delete rather than permanently removing all data from the database. This means your account is immediately deactivated and you cannot log in, but certain data is retained to maintain database relationships and integrity. This soft delete approach preserves referential integrity for your contributions (bands, edits, comments) while ensuring your account remains inaccessible.
- Data is stored in a secure PostgreSQL database
- We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
10. Changes to Terms
The terms and conditions may be updated from time to time. It is recommended to check back regularly for any changes.
